Looking for fine art oil painting with real brushwork? A Christmas Carol 1867 is reproduced by hand in oils on artist-grade canvas after Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The result is a piece of vintage oil painting wall decor that anchors a bedroom and rewards a closer look.
1867
Oil on panel
Private collection.
The picture is a quotidian image of a Beatricean condition, a fact underscored in the legend affixed to the frame of the oil painting itself. The young woman is singing a song of Christ's birth. As with all of DGR's pictures in which musical instruments figure as part of the action, a transcendental order of reality is being represented as impinging on the scene.
This picture presents a music-making subject with exotic accessories and medieval connotations (the Christmas carol, quoted on the frame, is of medieval origin).
The diverse accessories include a two-stringed instrument and a spiral hair ornament seen in other paintings. They are chosen not for historical consistency, but rather to create an appropriately sumptuous setting for the Christmas subject.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the fine art brushwork visible and gives the vintage oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As bedroom wall art, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large bedroom feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for fine art oil painting as a gift.
