From the first sketch to the final varnish, Down on His Luck is made by hand. Based on Frederick McCubbin's original. This timeless oil painting wall decor is crafted on artist-grade canvas for anyone who wants fine art oil painting with the character of an original.

Art Gallery of Western Australia, Australia.
It depicts a seemingly disheartened swagman, sitting by a campfire sadly brooding over his misfortune. According to an 1889 review, "The face tells of hardships, keen and blighting in their influence, but there is a nonchalant and slightly cynical expression, which proclaims the absence of all self-pity ... McCubbin's picture is thoroughly Australian in spirit." The surrounding bush is painted in subdued tones, reflecting his somber and contemplative mood.
Every hand painted oil painting in this fine art series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of Down on His Luck by eye and build up the fine art forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished fine art oil painting its luminosity.
Hang this fine art oil painting above a sofa, console, or bed to give a hallway an instant focal point. Its timeless palette works with both minimalist and period interiors, and the piece also makes a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, and art lovers.
Order Down on His Luck as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting timeless character to your hallway. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
