It is Finished (Consummatum Est) - James Tissot - Hand Painted Oil Painting suits both traditional and modern interiors. As a fine art oil painting, it works as a standalone focal point or as part of an entryway gallery wall, and unlike a print it is genuinely hand painted in oils.
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
As Jesus expires on the cross, he utters the words "It is finished." In this image, the spirits of the Old Testament prophets hover around the transverse bar of his crucifix, welcoming him into their company. Within the six-pointed Star of David, Tissot has painted the Hebrew word for Lord, further underscoring Christ's role in the divine plan.
Asserting that their "prophecies are accomplished," the artist shows the hovering prophets triumphantly holding scriptural scrolls above their heads. Below, the Virgin Mary reaches her arms out to her son.
As entryway wall decor, the piece pairs naturally with other traditional wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
traditional canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm an entryway. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
Whether the search term is fine art oil painting, entryway wall decor, or traditional oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
