For collectors searching fine art oil painting, Le Ravin (The Ravine) is a dependable choice. Painted in layered oils on canvas after Pierre Bonnard, this post-impressionist work reads equally well as classic canvas wall art and as a thoughtful housewarming gift.
1921
Oil on canvas
Private Collection, France.
In the 1920s Bonnard spent most of his time in the country. He divided his time between the South of France and the Normandy coast, usually spending the winters on the Mediterranean coast and going North for the summer months. At that point Nature could be felt in his art full-force, as Michel Terrasse described Bonnard's approach: "Under the blazing sun, with the mistral blowing, his palette caught fire without losing any of its subtlety. A born colorist, he was sensitive not only to bursts of color but equally to the quality of the air, to the vibration, the texture, the perfume of things (Michel Terrasse, Bonnard at Le Cannet, London, 1988, p. 11). In Le Ravin, painted in 1921, it is precisely this quality of air that Bonnard captures. This depiction is a prime example of Bonnard's lifelong dedication to Nature.
Every hand painted oil painting in this fine art series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for post-impressionist reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
post-impressionist canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a hallway. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
Whether the search term is fine art oil painting, hallway wall art, or post-impressionist oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
