Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando, Paris by Edgar Degas is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a home office, study, or reception area.
1879
Oil on canvas
46 x 30 1/2 in. (117 x 77.5 cm)
National Gallery - London, England.
The acrobat Miss La La caused a sensation when she performed at the Cirque Fernando in Paris. Here she is shown suspended from the rafters of the circus dome by a rope clenched between her teeth.
For several successive evenings in January 1879, Edgar Degas attended performances at the Cirque Fernando. For her extraordinary act, Miss La La was slowly hoisted nearly seventy feet into the circus's domed roof, suspended solely from a rope clenched between her teeth. Degas sought out such striking modern subjects, concentrating on figures in arresting poses. In January 1879 Degas produced a number of studies of the performer and the circus building - drawings, pastels, and an oil sketch - before creating his celebrated painting, Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando.
The painting was exhibited at the fourth Impressionist exhibition held in April 1879.
The cityscape subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of impressionist oil painting wall decor.
We use a 100% hand-painted process: stretched artist-grade canvas, layered oil pigment, and a final protective varnish. There are no inkjet prints or mechanical reproductions in this collection — just a painted cityscape artwork made to order.
Build a home office gallery wall around this cityscape oil painting, or let it stand alone as a single statement. The hand painted canvas finish keeps the cityscape composition looking intentional in both classic and contemporary rooms.
Whether the search term is cityscape oil painting, office wall decor, or impressionist oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
