Upgrade your walls with Nude, Red Chair - Pierre Bonnard - Oil Painting. Every figurative reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.
NU, CHAISE ROUGE
circa 1905
Oil on canvas
Painted in 1905, the present work exemplifies Bonnard’s continual interest in the nude as subject matter. These nudes often include elements of both eroticism and domesticity, with their nudity often accompanying tasks like bathing, washing and undressing. Bonnard’s lover and eventual wife, Marthe de Méligny, probably served as the model for this painting. The artist’s continued interest in the theme was sustained by Marthe’s own compulsive need to bathe. Bonnard would often sketch his subject in her bathroom, sitting several feet away from her, before completing the final version in his studio.
The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of post-impressionist oil painting wall decor.
We use a 100% hand-painted process: stretched artist-grade canvas, layered oil pigment, and a final protective varnish. There are no inkjet prints or mechanical reproductions in this collection — just a painted figurative artwork made to order.
Build a living room gallery wall around this portrait oil painting, or let it stand alone as a single statement. The hand painted canvas finish keeps the figurative composition looking intentional in both classic and contemporary rooms.
