About the Artwork
1906
Oil on canvas
153 x 133 cm
Austrian Gallery, Vienna.
However respectable his subject may appear, Klimt's decor is far from ingenuous, even when it is disguised, as here, in the form of a fan-shaped headdress modelled on Velasquez. The eroticism of the artist's view of life finds expression in a latent sexual symbolism which cumulatively leaves its mark on the unconscious of the beholder, making him. in the truest sense of the word, a voyeur.
Collectors often choose this figurative image when searching for portrait oil painting that feels substantial rather than decorative or disposable.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Expect subtle, hand-made variation rather than factory uniformity. Each figurative canvas is painted with oils, allowed to cure properly, and inspected before it is approved for shipment.
