Portrait of Max Jacob by Amedeo Modigliani is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a home office, study, or reception area.
1916
Oil on canvas
Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
Modigliani meets Max Jacob in 1906. They continue to go to Montmartre, then to Montparnasse. In 1914 and 1915, the Italian draws several portraits of his friend and paints two masterful works. This drawing, which portrays the poet as a bit of a "snob and a man about town", is a study for the painted portrait kept at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westphalen in Dusseldorf.
Our artists reproduce this figurative composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes portrait oil painting so sought after for a home office.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the figurative brushwork visible and gives the modern oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As office wall decor, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large home office feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for portrait oil painting as a gift.
