Nothing softens a bedroom like a painted surface. Portrait of Virginia Couse by Eanger Irving Couse arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the figurative detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that portrait oil painting shoppers look for.
circa 1890
Oil on canvas
31-1/4 x 25-1/2 inches
In 1899, Irving Couse and his bride, Virginia Walker, lived for the summer at the artists' colony of Cernay-la-ville, where this portrait was most likely painted. Virginia Couse Leavitt writes, "My grandfather used my grandmother as a model a lot in the early days and it is very typical to show her in profile. She had wonderful coloring, particularly the light red hair, and many of their artist friends admired it".
Our artists reproduce this figurative composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes portrait oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
Materials matter for refined wall decor. That is why this piece is built on artist-grade canvas with lightfast oil colors, applied by hand rather than output from a printer, and sealed for long-term display.
Style it over a fireplace, behind a reading chair, or along a staircase. Wherever it goes, this refined oil painting wall decor adds the layered color that only a hand painted canvas provides.
