Reconstruction of Jerusalem and the Temple of Herod - James Tissot - Fine Art Canvas Wall Art

Product Overview

Reconstruction of Jerusalem and the Temple of Herod by James Tissot is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a bedroom, study, or reception area.

Composition & Subject

Réconstitution de Jérusalem et du temple d'Hérode
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.

While Jesus traveled extensively across the countryside during his ministry, visiting villages and cities as well as the wilderness, he returned to Jerusalem, and its Temple, for the episodes depicted in Holy Week and the Passion.

This expansive but highly detailed watercolor sets the scene for many of the key episodes of the narrative and provides a historical reconstruction of the ancient city with its towering battlements, a view imagined from the Mount of Olives. The Temple complex appears at left, with smoke steadily billowing from its altar of burnt sacrifice.

Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.

How It Is Made

This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of Reconstruction of Jerusalem and the Temple of Herod by eye and build up the fine art forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished fine art oil painting its luminosity.
