Return from the Hunt by Frank Tenney Johnson

Return from the Hunt - Frank Tenney Johnson - Oil Painting

Product Overview

Nothing softens a gallery wall like a painted surface. Return from the Hunt by Frank Tenney Johnson arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the fine art detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that fine art oil painting shoppers look for.

The Story Behind the Painting

1934
Oil on canvas
25 x 30 inches
Private Collection.

According to Johnson biographer Harold McCracken, “The Frank Tenney Johnson nocturne was something he developed to the point of perfection where it can be considered pretty much his own art form. The most difficult aspect of his nocturne was to achieve the proper simulation of the natural colors of subject and landscape under the glow of moonlight or starlight; colors that varied in density from the close foreground into the farthest depth of the background, as well as the shifting values of light and shadows.”

Every hand painted oil painting in this fine art series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
