Seated Woman in Black Dress - William Merritt Chase - Oil Painting
About This Piece
Nothing softens a gallery wall like a painted surface. Seated Woman in Black Dress by William Merritt Chase arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the figurative detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that portrait oil painting shoppers look for.
The Story Behind the Painting
1890
pastel on paper

The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of refined oil painting wall decor.
How It Is Made
Materials matter for refined wall decor. That is why this piece is built on artist-grade canvas with lightfast oil colors, applied by hand rather than output from a printer, and sealed for long-term display.
