Shepherdess Sitting at the Edge of the Forest - Jean-Francois Millet - Canvas Wall Art
At a Glance
Shepherdess Sitting at the Edge of the Forest by Jean-Francois Millet is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a living room, study, or reception area.
Composition & Subject
ca 1848-49
Oil on canvas
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, United States.
In 1849 Millet painted 'Harvesters', a commission for the state. In the Salon of that year he exhibited 'Shepherdess Sitting at the Edge of the Forest', a very small oil which marked a turning away from previous idealized pastoral subjects, in favor of a more realistic and personal approach. In June of that year he settled in Barbizon with Catherine and their children.
Every hand painted oil painting in this landscape series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
