Upgrade your walls with Susanna and the Elders - Jean-Francois Millet - Canvas Wall Art. Every fine art reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.
c. 1846-49
Millet's 'Susanna and the Elders' is not the traditional representation of a maiden who is spied upon by old men while she bathes, but instead shows a young woman subjected to a violent sexual attack. It is a highly confronting reading of the story that is told in The Apocrypha.
After Millet moved from Paris to Barbizon in 1849, he abandoned Biblical and historic subjects for paintings of peasant life like 'The Angelus and The Gleaners'.
The fine art subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of heritage oil painting wall decor.
We use a 100% hand-painted process: stretched artist-grade canvas, layered oil pigment, and a final protective varnish. There are no inkjet prints or mechanical reproductions in this collection — just a painted fine art artwork made to order.
Build a hallway gallery wall around this fine art oil painting, or let it stand alone as a single statement. The hand painted canvas finish keeps the fine art composition looking intentional in both classic and contemporary rooms.
