Choose The Brook as a hand painted oil painting and skip the compromise of printed wall decor. Based on John Singer Sargent's original. Our artists rebuild the fine art composition stroke by stroke, producing realist canvas wall art with lasting color depth.
1907
Oil on canvas
54.61 cm (21.5 in.) x 68.58 cm (27 in.)
Private collection.
The girl seated in the foreground of this painting is the artist's niece, Rose Marie Ormond (1893–1918), daughter of Mrs Francis Ormond and later wife of Robert Michel. She appears with her sister, Reine Ormond (Mrs Hugo Pitman), in another painting ‘The Brook’ in the possession of Mrs Francis Ormond's second son Mr F. Guillaume Ormond in July 1961 (information from Mr Hugo Pitman, 18 July 1961), where they are dressed in Oriental costume. The site in both pictures is almost identical, a mountain stream at the Chalets de Purtud, near Courmayeur, Val d'Aosta, just south-west of Mont Blanc and almost 5,000 ft. above sea-level.
Every hand painted oil painting in this fine art series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of The Brook by eye and build up the fine art forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished fine art oil painting its luminosity.
Hang this fine art oil painting above a sofa, console, or bed to give a home office an instant focal point. Its realist palette works with both minimalist and period interiors, and the piece also makes a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, and art lovers.
Order The Brook as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting realist character to your home office. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
