The Childhood of Saint John the Baptist - James Tissot - Hand Painted Oil Painting
About This Piece
Nothing softens a gallery wall like a painted surface. The Childhood of Saint John the Baptist by James Tissot arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the figurative detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that portrait oil painting shoppers look for.
About the Artwork
L'enfance de saint Jean-Baptiste
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of vintage oil painting wall decor.
How It Is Made
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the figurative brushwork visible and gives the vintage oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
