Looking for fine art oil painting with real brushwork? The Good Samaritan (Le bon samaritain) is reproduced by hand in oils on artist-grade canvas after James Tissot. The result is a piece of classic oil painting wall decor that anchors a bedroom and rewards a closer look.
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
With the parable depicted here, Jesus preaches compassion, telling of a traveler waylaid by robbers in the treacherous, rocky territory between Jerusalem and Jericho. Though clearly in need of aid, the victim was ignored by a priest and a Levite both devout men but aided by a Samaritan, from an ethnic group ordinarily considered the enemies of the Jews.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
Expect subtle, hand-made variation rather than factory uniformity. Each fine art canvas is painted with oils, allowed to cure properly, and inspected before it is approved for shipment.
Wondering where fine art oil painting looks best? Try a bedroom mantel, a dining room sideboard, or a hallway gallery wall. The fine art subject reads clearly from a distance and rewards close viewing up near.
