The Horse Fair (La foire du cheval) - Rosa Bonheur - Canvas Oil Painting brings gallery-caliber art into everyday spaces. This wildlife oil painting is a 100% hand painted oil painting on canvas, created for buyers who want genuine traditional canvas wall art instead of a mass-produced poster or paper print.
The scene is the horse market in Paris, and the dome of La Salpêtrière is visible in the background. This is a reduced version of Bonheur's original 'Horse Fair', exhibited at the Salon of 1853 (New York, Metropolitan Museum). Although finished and signed by Bonheur, this painting was begun by the artist's life-long friend, Nathalie Micas. The dealer Ernest Gambart acquired it in 1855, and it was engraved by Thomas Landseer.
As bedroom wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other traditional wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the wildlife tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed wildlife oil painting simply cannot match.
traditional canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a bedroom. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
