The Kiss of Judas - James Tissot - Fine Art Oil Painting
At a Glance
Nothing softens a gallery wall like a painted surface. The Kiss of Judas by James Tissot arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the fine art detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that fine art oil painting shoppers look for.
The Story Behind the Painting
Le baiser de Judas
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
Having betrayed Jesus, Judas leads a party of armed guards who intend to arrest him. Judas has alerted the authorities that he will identify Jesus for them by kissing him. Here, standing on tiptoes, Judas reaches up to kiss him, an intimate gesture that further underscores the bitterness of the betrayal.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a gallery wall.
100% Hand Painted on Canvas
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
