The Lord's Prayer (Le "Pater Noster") - James Tissot - Canvas Wall Art

Nothing softens a home office like a painted surface. The Lord's Prayer (Le "Pater Noster") by James Tissot arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the fine art detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that fine art oil painting shoppers look for.

Composition & Subject

1886-1896
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.

Gathered around Jesus, the disciples ask him to teach them to pray. With arms opened wide and hands upraised in a gesture of humility, Jesus begins his prayer with an acknowledgment of God's power in heaven and on earth. (Tissot places Jesus between the color-streaked sky and the ground on which his disciples sit, further signifying Jesus' place between the human and the divine.) This invocation became the foundational prayer for his followers.

As office wall decor, the piece pairs naturally with other timeless wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.

100% Hand Painted on Canvas

This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of The Lord's Prayer (Le "Pater Noster") by eye and build up the fine art forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished fine art oil painting its luminosity.
