The Man Who Hoards (L'homme qui thesaurise) by James Tissot

The Man Who Hoards (L'homme qui thesaurise) - James Tissot - Hand Painted Oil Painting

Product Overview

Looking for fine art oil painting with real brushwork? The Man Who Hoards (L'homme qui thesaurise) is reproduced by hand in oils on artist-grade canvas after James Tissot. The result is a piece of vintage oil painting wall decor that anchors a dining room and rewards a closer look.

Composition & Subject

1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.

This is one of a group of paintings illustrating parables told by Jesus to his followers, rather than episodes from his life. Here, a rich man amasses possessions, taking pride in their accumulation rather than praising God for their plenitude and use. Dazzled by the goods that surround him, he remains oblivious to the threat of death hovering behind him in the form of a sword-bearing angel.

As dining room wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other vintage wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.

Materials & Craftsmanship

From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the fine art brushwork visible and gives the vintage oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
