The Story Behind the Painting
Le paralytique descendu du toit
1886-1896
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
Jesus receives numerous requests for healings, creating a crush of supplicants. Eager to reach him, after he has retired to the privacy of a home, four men lower a paralytic through the roof into the welcoming arms of Jesus a powerfully dramatic image. Tissot heightens the sense of the sick man's helplessness with his flailing, outstretched arms, a counterpoint to Christ's controlled gesture of acceptance.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for a living room.
100% Hand Painted on Canvas
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
