From the first sketch to the final varnish, The Scout is made by hand. Based on Charles Marion Russell's original. This traditional oil painting wall decor is crafted on artist-grade canvas for anyone who wants fine art oil painting with the character of an original.
1907
Watercolor, pencil & gouache on paper.
Russell did not often paint the Pawnees, but when he did he made them easily identifiable by the distinctive roach hair style favored by their men in the buffalo hunting days. Pawnee warriors often spent hours painting their horses, braiding their tails, fastening colored feathers in their manes and painting their own faces in preparation for battle against the Sioux. Russell's fine study of the solitary warrior, mounted and poised for action, shows the artist at the top of his form.
The fine art subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of traditional oil painting wall decor.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the fine art tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed fine art oil painting simply cannot match.
traditional canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a gallery wall. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
