Venice: The Bacino di San Marco on Ascension Day - Canaletto - Hand Painted Oil Painting

Product Overview

Upgrade your walls with Venice: The Bacino di San Marco on Ascension Day - Canaletto - Hand Painted Oil Painting. Every seascape reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.

The Story Behind the Painting

1732
Oil on canvas
77 cm (30.31 in.) x 126 cm (49.61 in.)
Royal Collection Trust (UK) - Buckingham Palace, London, United Kingdom.

The great Venetian festival of the Wedding of the Sea took place on Ascension Day. The Doge was rowed out of the lagoon into the Adriatic in his ceremonial galley, the Bucintoro, and dropped a ring into the sea symbolising Venice’s maritime power. Here spectators in smaller boats excitedly watch the return of the Bucintoro in clear spring sunlight

Collectors often choose this seascape image when searching for seascape oil painting that feels substantial rather than decorative or disposable.

Materials & Craftsmanship

From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the seascape brushwork visible and gives the vintage oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
