Choose Woman, Behold Thy Son (Stabat Mater) as a hand painted oil painting and skip the compromise of printed wall decor. Based on James Tissot's original. Our artists rebuild the figurative composition stroke by stroke, producing traditional canvas wall art with lasting color depth.
1886-1894
Opaque watercolor over graphite on gray wove paper
Brooklyn Museum, United States.
As time passed at Golgotha, the sky grew darker, frightening away many of the observers but permitting those in Jesus' immediate circle, who had initially kept themselves at a safe distance, to approach, and even to touch his feet. Mary Magdalene hugs the cross. Jesus—facing away and hidden by the beams of the cross—acknowledges the sufferings of his mother, and seeing John standing nearby, he urges her to look to the apostle for comfort, saying, "Woman, behold thy son!" He also urges John to care for the Virgin as part of his own family, saying to him, "Behold, thy mother!"
The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of traditional oil painting wall decor.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the figurative tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed portrait oil painting simply cannot match.
traditional canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a living room. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
Whether the search term is portrait oil painting, living room wall decor, or traditional oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
