The artwork Women Turned towards the Sun is a painting created by Edvard Munch between 1910 and 1920. It is part of the collection of the Munch Museum.
The painting depicts two nude female figures in an abstracted landscape. The woman in the foreground lies reclining, her body painted in pale pinks and yellows, her head thrown back and partially obscured by her arm. Her eyes are closed, suggesting a sense of ease or abandon. A dark, undefined shape rests near her hip, possibly a shadow or a piece of clothing.
The second woman stands behind, her body elongated and posed in a way that suggests movement. Her head is tilted upwards, facing the sun implied by the vibrant yellows and oranges in the upper portion of the canvas. Both figures are rendered with fluid, expressive brushstrokes, their forms blending into the surrounding landscape.
The background is a whirlwind of blues, greens, and pinks, evoking a sense of energy and movement. A cliff face, painted in cool blues and whites, anchors the left side of the composition. The overall effect is one of vibrant, expressive energy, capturing a fleeting moment of light and movement.
The figurative subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of expressionist oil painting wall decor.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the figurative brushwork visible and gives the expressionist oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As hallway wall art, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large hallway feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for portrait oil painting as a gift.
Whether the search term is portrait oil painting, hallway wall art, or expressionist oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
