Woman with a Rake - Jean-Francois Millet - Hand Painted Oil Painting brings gallery-caliber art into everyday spaces. This portrait oil painting is a 100% hand painted oil painting on canvas, created for buyers who want genuine traditional canvas wall art instead of a mass-produced poster or paper print.
c. 1856-57
Oil on canvas
Metropolitan Museum of Art, United States.
Millet first treated this subject in a woodcut, one of a series of ten "Labors of the Fields" published in a popular periodical in 1853. The art dealer Martinet, in whose gallery such avant-garde artists as Courbet and Manet exhibited, included this painting in a show in 1860.
As hallway wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other traditional wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for traditional reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the figurative tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed portrait oil painting simply cannot match.
traditional canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a hallway. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
