The artwork entitled “Bend in Forest Road” is a landscape oil painting on canvas created by the renowned artist Paul Cezanne in 1906. Though it is often associated with the Cubism movement, which Cezanne’s work greatly influenced, this particular piece was created at the end of Cezanne’s career and represents his unique approach to form and color that paved the way for Cubism. Currently, the artwork is held in a private collection, not readily accessible to the public.

The painting depicts a winding road meandering through a dense forest. The scene is constructed with a dynamic array of brushstrokes and a rich palette of colors. The trees and foliage are rendered using a combination of greens, yellows, and blues, suggesting depth and texture within the forest environment. The earthen road, captured in shades of gold and ocher, guides the viewer’s eye toward the central vanishing point, enclosed by the towering trees that both line the path and define the composition’s boundaries.

Cezanne’s treatment of the landscape communicates a strong sense of place while also dissolving forms into a collection of interconnected color planes and geometric shapes. His pioneering technique and the abstract quality of the painting foreshadow elements of Cubism, though it would be more accurate to describe the artwork as post-Impressionist, which is the broader art movement under which Cezanne’s work is typically categorized. Nonetheless, the artist’s influence on future movements, such as Cubism, is undeniable.

Every hand painted oil painting in this landscape series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
