Ivan Aivazovsky was a Russian Romantic painter considered to be one of the greatest masters of marine art. Most of his works depict the sea and its moods and characters: calm, turbulent, shallow, deep, unpredictable, dark, light, and others. He knew the sea, its curves, its foams, its waves, its depth. One of his best works is "Between the Waves," also known as "Among the Waves." In this painting, the line between the sea and the dark sky is blurred. In the distance is darkness. The white foams of the waves look translucent, illuminated by an unseen light source coming from the top left of the canvas. The result is a contrast between dark blues and white tones, a harmonious movement of the crashing waves.
Every hand painted oil painting in this seascape series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the seascape brushwork visible and gives the romantic oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As dining room wall art, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large dining room feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for seascape oil painting as a gift.
