Upgrade your walls with Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) - Winslow Homer - Oil Painting Wall Decor. Every fine art reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.
1876
Oil on canvas
61.5 x 97 cm (24 3/16 x 38 3/16 in.)
National Gallery of Art - Washington DC, United States.
The artist started the canvas in 1873 while in New York after visiting Gloucester, Massachusetts, where it was his first time to work in watercolour. Homer used the sketches executed there for the oil painting. Infrared reflectography has shown the many changes the artist made to this composition, including a second schooner seen in the distance and a 4th boy being removed near the mast. At a certain time, the adult was holding both the tiller and the sheet, a position originally adapted form an 1874 oil study called The Flirt.
The painting depicts life on the coastal water during a breezy day. It's rich in shadowing colour and detail. In the painting, there is a man and three boys on a catboat enjoying ocean waves. The catboat has one sail; the boy who is manning the till seems relaxed that he's steering with one hand.
As entryway wall decor, the piece pairs naturally with other refined wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Materials matter for refined wall decor. That is why this piece is built on artist-grade canvas with lightfast oil colors, applied by hand rather than output from a printer, and sealed for long-term display.
Style it over a fireplace, behind a reading chair, or along a staircase. Wherever it goes, this refined oil painting wall decor adds the layered color that only a hand painted canvas provides.
Whether the search term is fine art oil painting, entryway wall decor, or refined oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
