Deer in Forest (White Tailed Deer) by Charles Marion Russell

Deer in Forest (White Tailed Deer) - Charles Marion Russell - Hand Painted Oil Painting

Product Overview

Nothing softens a bedroom like a painted surface. Deer in Forest (White Tailed Deer) by Charles Marion Russell arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the wildlife detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that wildlife oil painting shoppers look for.

Composition & Subject

1917
Oil on canvasboard.

In many of his wildlife paintings Russell used an unfamiliar palette to convey a woodsy atmosphere--dimmer light, deeper shadow, mossy greens. Though nature always held secrets to delight the observant, here the white tailed deer frolic in the open unafraid. The partridge watching the deer leap the fallen log is clearly visible, but the rabbit hunkered down in the undergrowth below is an unexpected bonus, Russell's gift of the sort the woods yield up only to the patient. Russell spent his summers delighting in the wildlife that abounded in the woods around Lake McDonald, where he had built a cabin, Bull Head Lodge, in 1905. The area became part of Glacier National Park in 1910.

Our artists reproduce this wildlife composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes wildlife oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
