From the first sketch to the final varnish, His Wealth (Braves on the March) is made by hand. Based on Charles Marion Russell's original. This vintage oil painting wall decor is crafted on artist-grade canvas for anyone who wants fine art oil painting with the character of an original.
c. 1910
Watercolor, pencil & gouache on paper.
efore the white man came and, to Russell's way of thinking, despoiled the land, the Western Indians lived a life that was simple, even spartan, yet rich beyond reckoning. At his peak, the plains warrior, independent, fearless and self-sufficient, rode with the haughty dignity befitting his station as "nature's nobleman," lord and master of a vast domain that provided his every want. "While the buffalo lasted, the Injuns counted their wealth in hosses," Russell observed. Horse wealth varied from tribe to tribe - a rich Plains Cree might own five horses, a rich Blackfoot forty or fifty. Estimated according to his needs, then the wealth of the plains warrior portrayed by Russell was substantial indeed.
As office wall decor, the piece pairs naturally with other vintage wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the fine art brushwork visible and gives the vintage oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As office wall decor, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large home office feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for fine art oil painting as a gift.
