Upgrade your walls with Sighting the Herd (Buffalo Hunt) - Charles Marion Russell - Fine Art Oil Painting Wall Decor. Every fine art reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.
1896
Oil on paper on masonite.
A small party of hunters approaches a herd of buffalo grazing on a distant plain. Their position is favorable—they are out of view and doubtless downwind from the buffalo and so will have the necessary advantage of surprise when they begin the chase. Russell tells of the excitement and anticipation of a moment like this in one of his stories as he describes the signal of the scout with his robe, which causes the Indians to prepare for the chase. When they are ready, the scout on the butte swings his robe a couple of times around his head and drops it as the Indians begin their run. At the top of the ridge they spot the large buffalo herd and the chase is on. Sighting the Herd is the only one of Russell’s buffalo paintings in which he shows the hunters funneling up the slope, leading the viewer’s eyes to the figure on the summit and to the buffalo herd grazing far below him.
As dining room wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other timeless wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of Sighting the Herd (Buffalo Hunt) by eye and build up the fine art forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished fine art oil painting its luminosity.
Hang this fine art oil painting above a sofa, console, or bed to give a dining room an instant focal point. Its timeless palette works with both minimalist and period interiors, and the piece also makes a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, and art lovers.
