Looking for landscape oil painting with real brushwork? Sunset, Herblay, Opus 206 is reproduced by hand in oils on artist-grade canvas after Paul Signac. The result is a piece of post-impressionist oil painting wall decor that anchors a hallway and rewards a closer look.
1889
Oil on canvas
22 1/2 x 35 3/8 in. (57.1 x 90 cm)
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Using the complementary colours blue and orange, Signac captures the rich, atmospheric glow of a sunset at Herblay, a village on the river Seine. Intent on capturing a particular quality of light, Signac applies his paint using dabs and patches, rather than the rigid dots of Pointillism.
Notice how Signac has inscribed ‘Opus 206’ in the lower right hand corner – just as a piece of music might be numbered. Signac believed that his method of painting, combining colours that were divided and then harmonized, was like musical composition.
Collectors often choose this landscape image when searching for landscape oil painting that feels substantial rather than decorative or disposable.
Trained artists work in stages — underpainting, mid-tones, highlights, and detail — using traditional oils on canvas. Because nothing is printed, every hand painted oil painting has its own subtle texture and depth.
For hallway wall art that does not feel generic, a painted landscape canvas is hard to beat. It is a popular landscape oil painting pick for new homeowners and a durable alternative to seasonal poster art.
Order Sunset, Herblay, Opus 206 as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting post-impressionist character to your hallway. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
