Upgrade your walls with The Defiant Culprit - Charles Marion Russell - Oil Painting Wall Decor. Every fine art reproduction is painted entirely by hand, so the surface carries the depth and variation of an original oil painting rather than the flatness of a digital canvas print.
1895
Oil on masonite panel.
Lacking specific information on the incident portrayed here, it is a fair guess that the "defiant culprit" has been captured on a horse raid and is now about to pay the price of his temerity. Clothing and hair styles suggest that a Sioux warrior is facing his Blackfoot captors. Russell has underlined the melodramatic nature of the moment by throwing the tipi into deep shadow, allowing the flickering firelight to play over the stern features of the culprit's judges and the stooped figure of the old woman. The long arm of the law literally rests on the culprit's shoulder while he stands with his blanket dropped at his feet, vulnerable in his nakedness but arrogant in his pride. "It's their religion to die without a whimper," Russell wrote in one of his Indian stories. Such stoicism was a trait right out of the noble savage convention that Russell professed to disdain but could not resist.
The fine art subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of elegant oil painting wall decor.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This fine art oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its elegant character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a bedroom.
Order The Defiant Culprit as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting elegant character to your bedroom. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
