For collectors searching fine art oil painting, The Duchess of Abrantes is a dependable choice. Painted in layered oils on canvas after Francisco de Goya, this classical work reads equally well as classic canvas wall art and as a thoughtful housewarming gift.
1816
Oil on canvas
92 cm (36.22 in.) x 70 cm (27.56 in.)
Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Spain.
Sister of the Marchioness of Santa Cruz (portrait in the Prado) and daughter of the Duke of Osuna wears headgear that was fashinable for Spanish women at the time. The vibrant and fast technique in this portrait still has the colours and decorative nature of Goya's works of the 18th century but here he adds black brushstrokes and light rubbings to produce a more advanced style.
As hallway wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other classical wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This fine art oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its classical character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a hallway.
