Essentially a romantic rather than a realistic interpretation of nature, the principal subject of the picture is the spirit of peace and calm that envelops the earth at dusk. The subordination of details in large masses of shadow heightens this mood. ‘The Mill’, which, for more than a century, was in an English private collection, had considerable influence on English landscape painters. John Constable described it as one of the four memorable paintings in the history of landscape and in itself sufficient to form an epoch of landscape painting.
Our artists reproduce this fine art composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes fine art oil painting so sought after for an entryway.
We use a 100% hand-painted process: stretched artist-grade canvas, layered oil pigment, and a final protective varnish. There are no inkjet prints or mechanical reproductions in this collection — just a painted fine art artwork made to order.
Build an entryway gallery wall around this fine art oil painting, or let it stand alone as a single statement. The hand painted canvas finish keeps the fine art composition looking intentional in both classic and contemporary rooms.
