Prospectors discover an Indian Camp
1893
Oil on canvas
26 1/8 inches x 34 inches.
In Trouble on the Horizon, a companion piece to Plunder on the Horizon, two prospectors on a mountain slope calmly survey an Indian village nestled in a piney valley and, badly outnumbered, decide to give the camp a wide birth. As the pack horse shows, these are pick and shovel prospectors prepared to pan for their fortunes while not neglecting such creature comforts as a good pot of coffee. The fallen tree, a device Russell often employed in his early paintings to separate the foreground from the background, here carries an added symbolic import, signifying the cultural barrier forever dividing red and white.
Every hand painted oil painting in this fine art series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
We use a 100% hand-painted process: stretched artist-grade canvas, layered oil pigment, and a final protective varnish. There are no inkjet prints or mechanical reproductions in this collection — just a painted fine art artwork made to order.
Build a home office gallery wall around this fine art oil painting, or let it stand alone as a single statement. The hand painted canvas finish keeps the fine art composition looking intentional in both classic and contemporary rooms.
Whether the search term is fine art oil painting, office wall decor, or heritage oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
