1916
Oil on composite wood-pulp board
View from a Height, Algonquin Park (shown above) was painted during fall 1916 the year Tom Thomson worked as a fire ranger following a Booth Lumber Company log drive on Algonquin Park's East Side. Thomson spent time at the Out-Side-In, a rustic ranger cabin, that still stands at the Achray Campground today. During 1916, Thomson painted some of his most famous works including The Jack Pine believed to be created just south of today's Achray Campground.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to view these two original Tom Thomson works, Northern Lake and View from a Height, Algonquin Park, from July 9 to 16, 2017. Admission to the Algonquin Art Centre is free of charge, but a valid Park permit is required.
Every hand painted oil painting in this landscape series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
Trained artists work in stages — underpainting, mid-tones, highlights, and detail — using traditional oils on canvas. Because nothing is printed, every hand painted oil painting has its own subtle texture and depth.
For bedroom wall art that does not feel generic, a painted landscape canvas is hard to beat. It is a popular landscape oil painting pick for new homeowners and a durable alternative to seasonal poster art.
