Looking for cityscape oil painting with real brushwork? View of Paris is reproduced by hand in oils on artist-grade canvas after Raoul Dufy. The result is a piece of fauvist oil painting wall decor that anchors a bedroom and rewards a closer look.
circa 1936
gouache on paper
Private collection.
Executed in 1936 from the south side of the river Seine, Vue de Paris is a faithful map view focusing on the most famous architectural icons of the capital city. The Eiffel Tower, is of course easily recognizable in the middle right of the composition, and from left to right: the Arc de Triomphe, the Grand Palais, Place de la Concorde, The Sacré-Coeur, the Opéra Garnier, The Pantheon and Notre-Dame-de Paris, amongst others. In the foreground of the composition, Dufy skilfully uses the arrangement of flowers to create an illusion that the spectator is enjoying this wonderful view, with the artist, from their fantasy balcony.
Collectors often choose this cityscape image when searching for cityscape oil painting that feels substantial rather than decorative or disposable.
Oil on canvas remains the reference standard for fauvist reproductions. Our artists apply pigment by hand, blending the cityscape tones directly on the surface for depth that a printed cityscape oil painting simply cannot match.
fauvist canvas wall art is one of the easiest ways to warm a bedroom. Pair this piece with natural linen, dark wood, or brushed brass, and let the hand painted surface do the rest.
