For collectors searching fine art oil painting, Agapanthus is a dependable choice. Painted in layered oils on canvas after Claude Monet, this impressionist work reads equally well as classic canvas wall art and as a thoughtful housewarming gift.
1914-1917
Oil on canvas
6' 6" x 70 1/4" (198.2 x 178.4 cm)
Metropolitan Museum of Art, United States.
Monet's Water Lily paintings are based fundamentally on direct observation of nature. The artist frequently painted outdoors, drawing endless inspiration from the plants, trees, and pond at Giverny. The gardens on his property were the great extravagance of his final years; their upkeep required the services of six full-time gardeners. Monet planted agapanthus - a thin, wispy lily plant native to Africa - along the banks of his pond as well as several other types of indigenous and imported vegetation, such as wisteria, irises, and bamboo.
Collectors often choose this fine art image when searching for fine art oil painting that feels substantial rather than decorative or disposable.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the fine art brushwork visible and gives the impressionist oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As dining room wall art, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large dining room feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for fine art oil painting as a gift.
Whether the search term is fine art oil painting, dining room wall art, or impressionist oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
