Jean Monet on a Mechanical Horse - Claude Monet - Oil Painting for Hallway suits both traditional and modern interiors. As a wildlife oil painting, it works as a standalone focal point or as part of a hallway gallery wall, and unlike a print it is genuinely hand painted in oils.
1872
Oil on canvas
23-1/4 x 28-3/4 in
Metropolitan Museum of Art, United States.
Claude Monet painted Jean Monet on a Mechanical Horse in 1872. Monet and Camille's first son, Jean (1867-1913), was born in 1867. The little boy appeared in several of Monet's paintings during the family's early residence in Argenteuil. In a fond glimpse of Jean's childhood rather than a formal portrait, Monet has depicted his son atop a favorite toy, playing in the privacy of the family's garden.
Every hand painted oil painting in this wildlife series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
This is a genuine hand painted oil painting, not a canvas print. Our painters match the palette of Jean Monet on a Mechanical Horse by eye and build up the wildlife forms in thin layers, which is what gives the finished wildlife oil painting its luminosity.
Hang this wildlife oil painting above a sofa, console, or bed to give a hallway an instant focal point. Its impressionist palette works with both minimalist and period interiors, and the piece also makes a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, and art lovers.
