Osterreichische Galerie Belvedere, Austria.
Claude Monet painted Pathway in Monet's Garden at Giverny in 1902. Because he disliked the formal quality of the main path that led to the door of his house, Monet thinned the stands of spruce and cypress trees flanking the walk.
In their place he planted dense beds of salmon pink and garnet nasturtiums as well as fuchsia and dahlias that bloomed through the summer. Monet's wife Alice protested as he eliminated trees, but Monet insisted they were blocking the light for his flowers.
Our artists reproduce this landscape composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes landscape oil painting so sought after for a hallway.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the landscape brushwork visible and gives the impressionist oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As hallway wall art, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large hallway feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for landscape oil painting as a gift.
