Nothing softens an entryway like a painted surface. Sunset over the Crimean Coast by Ivan Aivazovsky arrives as a hand painted oil painting on canvas, offering the seascape detail, soft gradients, and tactile finish that seascape oil painting shoppers look for.

Oil on canvas
What distinguishes my own works from each other and from those of other artists is the strength of the light. I regard the pictures in which the main power is the light.... as my finest creations." (the artist cited in G.Goldovsky, 'A Romantic Master', Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky. Paintings, drawings and watercolours from the museum collections of St Petersburg, exhibition catalogue, St. Petersburg: The State Russian Museum, 2000, p.5)
Many painters were drawn to the magical light of the Crimea but no one ever surpassed the beauty of Aivazovsky's poetic canvasses depicting his beloved homeland. In the present lot Aivazovsky skilfully captures 'the golden hour' before the sun sets, when sky and sea are bathed in a warm glow and clouds are raked by the dramatic effects of the sun.
The seascape subject is rebuilt stroke by stroke in oil, giving the finished canvas the depth expected of romantic oil painting wall decor.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This seascape oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its romantic character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing an entryway.
