1876
Oil on canvas
75.5 x 100.5 cm
Kunsthalle, Bremen, Germany. Now in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg, Russia.
This painting depicts the garden of Monet's second home in Argenteuil. The ten paintings executed in the summer of 1876 can be divided into two groups, according to the perspective chosen: in some canvases, the house is visible; others are painted looking away from the house. In either case, the garden's untended growth expressed the spontaneous force of nature. A woman, usually recognized as Monet's wife, Camille, appears in all the landscapes of the second group, depicted always comme il faut, as one was expected to appear in public - in a hat, and sometimes with a parasol. In The Garden the woman merges with the vegetation, whereas in some other paintings, for instance, in Woman in the Garden at Sainte-Adresse , the woman seems to contrast with it.
As living room wall decor, the piece pairs naturally with other impressionist wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Expect subtle, hand-made variation rather than factory uniformity. Each landscape canvas is painted with oils, allowed to cure properly, and inspected before it is approved for shipment.
Wondering where landscape oil painting looks best? Try a living room mantel, a dining room sideboard, or a hallway gallery wall. The landscape subject reads clearly from a distance and rewards close viewing up near.
In short: The Garden. (Le Jardin) - Claude Monet - Landscape Oil Painting Wall Decor combines an impressionist composition, a 100% hand painted oil painting process, and the flexibility of made-to-order canvas sizes — a dependable choice for landscape oil painting and living room wall decor.
