The Garden of Love by Peter Paul Rubens is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a bedroom, study, or reception area.
1630-1632
Oil on canvas
78 x 111 2/5 in. (199 cm x 286 cm)
Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Spain.
This scene from a court feast takes place in a relaxed atmosphere in which a group of persons flirt in an idyllic garden. The cupids around the group carry symbols of conjugal love, including a pair of doves and the yolk carried by the cupid in the upper left part of the composition. The fountains or sculptures of the three Graces and of Venus nursing signify fecundity and marital happiness, while the peacock symbolizes the goddess, Juno, who protects matrimony. Rubens uses motives from Renaissance sculptures, but sets the scene in the mannerist portico of his own house in Antwerp, which led to the idea that it was a self-portrait with friends. In the early inventories it was called Rubens′ Family, but in any case, it is an allegory and exaltation of conjugal love and happiness. This work was listed for the first time in 1666, when it hung in the King′s bedroom at Madrid′s Alcázar Palace.
Our artists reproduce this landscape composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes landscape oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This landscape oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its classical character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a bedroom.
In short: The Garden of Love - Peter Paul Rubens - Hand Painted Oil Painting combines a classical composition, a 100% hand painted oil painting process, and the flexibility of made-to-order canvas sizes — a dependable choice for landscape oil painting and bedroom wall art.
