Water Lilies 1905 by Claude Monet

Water Lilies 1905 - Claude Monet - Canvas Oil Painting

About This Piece

From the first sketch to the final varnish, Water Lilies 1905 is made by hand. Based on Claude Monet's original. This impressionist oil painting wall decor is crafted on artist-grade canvas for anyone who wants still life oil painting with the character of an original.

The Story Behind the Painting

1905
Oil on canvas
35-1/4 x 39-1/2 in
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, United States.

Across the boundless plane of his luminous pond, Claude Monet observed the ghostly images of the reflected trees and the bright lilies on the shimmering waters. Monet had used an exuberant palette in the second year of his series on the Japanese bridge in 1900.

Now he applied the nuance of tone he acquired during his London campaign to the water garden, and he took the daring step of eliminating all surrounding terrain, making water his exclusive subject in his 1905 work, Water Lilies.

As hallway wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other impressionist wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Materials matter for impressionist wall decor. That is why this piece is built on artist-grade canvas with lightfast oil colors, applied by hand rather than output from a printer, and sealed for long-term display.
