Winter Landscape 2 - Ivan Aivazovsky - Romantic Oil Painting suits both traditional and modern interiors. As a landscape oil painting, it works as a standalone focal point or as part of a bedroom gallery wall, and unlike a print it is genuinely hand painted in oils.
The serenity of this winter landscape admirably reflects Aivazovky's romantic and lyrical style. He painted many winter scenes throughout his career, the earliest depicting ox-carts traversing the vast Ukrainian steppe and two winter landscapes, which closely relate to the offered lot, can be found in the Dolmabah?e Palace, Turkey (fig.1).
Aivazovsky layers the composition with shades of white, carefully and deftly conveying the powdery snow as it settles on the branches and weighs down the trees.
In the present lot an air of melancholy seems to surround the two dark figures at the centre of the composition and it is has been suggested that this may be a depiction of members of the Imperial family in mourning after the assassination of Alexander II in 1881.
Our artists reproduce this landscape composition in oil on canvas by hand, preserving the tonal range that makes landscape oil painting so sought after for a bedroom.
Expect subtle, hand-made variation rather than factory uniformity. Each landscape canvas is painted with oils, allowed to cure properly, and inspected before it is approved for shipment.
Wondering where landscape oil painting looks best? Try a bedroom mantel, a dining room sideboard, or a hallway gallery wall. The landscape subject reads clearly from a distance and rewards close viewing up near.
In short: Winter Landscape 2 - Ivan Aivazovsky - Romantic Oil Painting combines a romantic composition, a 100% hand painted oil painting process, and the flexibility of made-to-order canvas sizes — a dependable choice for landscape oil painting and bedroom wall art.
