Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a living room, study, or reception area.
Fifteen Sunflowers in a Vase, 1888
Oil on canvas
92.1 cm (36.26 in.) x 73 cm (28.74 in.)
National Gallery London, United Kingdom.
Sunflowers was completed by Vincent van Gogh in 1888; it was one of a number of paintings to feature sunflowers. But sunflowers were more than a mere decorative scheme for Vincent. As a floral emblem, the sunflower was traditionally associated with worship and constant devotion. To Vincent van Gogh, their vibrant colors and radiant forms represented the vitalizing power of the sun. Van Gogh regarded this painting as his best, and aside from a few touches of green in the stems and the blue contour lines, Vincent van Gogh worked in a restricted palette of yellow, from a pale, sunstruck tone to a ruddy ocher.
Paul Gauguin's visit to the Yellow House took on a great importance for Vincent van Gogh, and this was reflected in his work. On the following page we'll take a closer look at a self-portrait Vincent van Gogh painted around this time.
Every hand painted oil painting in this still life series is finished on artist-grade canvas and checked against the original before it leaves the studio.
From primer to varnish, the work is done manually on artist-grade canvas. The absence of digital printing is deliberate: it keeps the still life brushwork visible and gives the post-impressionist oil painting wall decor a museum-like finish.
As living room wall decor, this canvas brings color and texture without visual noise. It scales well from a small study to a large living room feature wall, and it is a reliable choice when shopping for still life oil painting as a gift.
Whether the search term is still life oil painting, living room wall decor, or post-impressionist oil painting wall decor, this hand painted canvas delivers the same thing: a real painted surface, made to your chosen dimensions.
