A Pair of Shoes by Vincent van Gogh is one of those images that never dates. Our studio recreates it as a hand painted oil painting — textured, color-rich, and ready to hang as canvas wall art in a dining room, study, or reception area.
1886
Oil on canvas
Van Gogh Museum, Netherlands.
Vincent van Gogh painted A Pair of Shoes in 1885. The painting's simple subject -- a pair of worn work boots -- gave van Gogh the opportunity to concentrate on the issues of color and brush stroke.
Van Gogh painted the boots in the dull browns of his Nuenen palette, but he set them against a fresh background of gold. He applied his paint thickly, leaving distinct brush strokes in the foreground and working a crosshatch pattern in the back, giving as much importance to his surface as his subject.
As dining room wall art, the piece pairs naturally with other post-impressionist wall art and with warm neutrals, timber, and soft natural light.
Each canvas is painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on artist-grade cotton canvas. No printing, giclée, or digital imaging is used at any stage, so the surface keeps the slight relief and color variation of real brushwork.
This fine art oil painting wall decor is equally at home in a residence, a boutique hotel, or a professional office. Its post-impressionist character makes it a safe, distinctive gift for anyone furnishing a dining room.
Order A Pair of Shoes as a hand painted oil painting on canvas and add lasting post-impressionist character to your dining room. Custom sizes, a digital proof before dispatch, and secure worldwide shipping are included.
